We bought a place in the country!!!! :) :) Woohoo!! Well, some of you on may have been suspecting this due to a few of my questions on other forums, and I couldn't say anything until it was all official..... but now it is!

We bought a little place in the country and it has a barn and a nice large garage/workshop too! My horses can come home!!! I can't wait. The closing date is March 19th. We need to re-do the stalls in the barn (to make them suitable for two Belgians!) and also put up some fencing, but hopefully by June 1st our horses will be living on our property with us!!!

And a week before this all took place, my boyfriend also surprised me by proposing!!! Woohoo!!!!

What a great start to 2010 so far...... :D

Ah, well its in Dunnville - actually the mailing address is Lowbanks. And it is very small - only 2 acres (but its all we could afford for our first place, and still be within a comfortable commuting distance from work.

2 acres isn't totally ideal, but I did live on a 2 acre farm for 20 years when I was a kid, and we had 2 horses, and during the summer months sometimes 3 or 4 horses living there! Once we get to know the neighbours a little, I am going to see if the one farmer would be okay with us riding (and driving) around the edge of the fields sometimes. And if not, we are very close to some back roads that lead to all over the place - lots of hacking..... including an old rail line that no longer has a track on it :)

There's really only one problem with the place though - 2 acres doesn't leave enough room to help rescue other horses :(

Or maybe for us thats a good thing.... for now anyway... as I see SO MANY that I want!!!

That's not necessarily a downside... I have 6 acres with zero fencing (except for the goats ;) ) so I know that even when fully fenced, my numbers are limited. I think its a lot easier to not get in over your head that way, as so many people tend to. Always better to start small and make small differences, especially when you're starting out :)

2 acres is more than enough, its all about space management and planning!

You'd be surprised what we have done with 3 acres ;) It's true that the space, is my control board. I long for the 100 acre farm I grew up on back - but truth be told with 2 munchkins, a hubby and working full time - who am I kidding that I could fit any more in a day. Crazy enough as is :)

It's an oldie. A nice size house though (and there is even a hot tub!!) :)

We own 60 and use another 40 more.... trust me. 2 acres is plenty. lol!! Its definitely easier to keep the numbers down when space mandates it! It would be VERY easy to have too many here, so I am very careful to not make my decisions based on my emotions but make them on sense. ;)

Congrats to ALL of it!!!

Congrats.... don't worry more land means more problems, more fencing, and more worries. Just think it won't take long to check your fence lines ... it can take me 2 days....

congrats Firefly...and just think...this isn't the end, just the beginning!...there's ALWAYS time down the road (perhaps after the munchkins have grown and you *semi* retire from work) to get more acreage...in the meantime, enjoy your farm, your horses and the splendid country life ;)
