Horses and Double Decker Transport

Guys I only have a minute - 'illegal' email at work!
Health of Animals Reg. 142(a) states that animals must be able to stand in a natural stance without contacting the roof/deck above.
Many of us know this is not achieved in the center of a DD. And that injury and misery result for horses. I met with my MP Harold Albrecht (Kitchener- Conestoga) to demand action/answers from the CFIA in enforcing this regulation. They are willing to go to bat for us - but many voices will make this more powerful. Pls. take a minute and email him that you support their pursuit of enforcement of this Reg.
I was up at 3 am ensuring they had the document they needed to start this process today.
AlbreH1A@parl.gc.ca
if you are a constituent of his - state this. (K-w and area)
email your own also if you can - cite the reg 142(a)

Thanks guys - its for the horses - they've suffered with this for too long. Glad to detail further later. Its not a moral issue - its in black and white for the protection of voiceless horses and the continued transport speaks to CFIA's disregard.
PS the deck heights are approx 67" and 70" max. I've measured my horses with a stick and tape at these heights - even 14-2hh mare (pony-size) fails - check your own if you wish to see it yourself.

Dare I ask - did anyone choose to send an email to this MP supporting enforcement of this Reg? Sorry it was so rushed - I felt that time was of the essence as I had met with them yesterday - and I had to really wrangle a few minutes of email access at work this morning.
This is not a rushed effort however - I have been trying to get information and or action from the CFIA for months to no avail. They are well aware that horses do not have adequate headroom in the two level center of the double decker, as they state on their own web-site that 'double deckers do not provide adequate headroom for most horses'. Yet they are still in use for horses - often long haul, most often slaughter bound. If you ask them what to do if you see this activity they will tell you to report it to your nearest district CFIA office with as much detail as possible so they can follow up. I have done that complete with video and statement and there appears to have been no follow-up and no response to my subsequent queries. And more citings (sitings?) of dd's transporting horses in all the usual, including the reported locations in the months following.
Not trying to incite debate - just providing a little more detail after my rushed post this morning. I appreciate (I mean the horses appreciate) anyone who took the time to share their support with this MP of efforts to demand that the CFIA do their job with respect to this Regulation intended to protect horses. He is a politician and the more who speak up - the much, much better.
And any sharing with others would be much appreciated as well. Thanks.

yikes, could not find him there! Pretty sure it's Michael Chong but nothing came up with the search for him or Wellington...wonder if google is more helpful!! Thanks, though. Sometimes gov't websites are meant to confuse.

Pls. send it to my MP also Gruff to the email above - thank you so much. The impact will be much greater if my MP approaches Min. of Ag. and / or CFIA Pres. saying I have a concerned constituent and 50 other angry emails to support this issue...

Thanks you guys for 'weighing in' on this issue - I'll keep you posted.
Just as a 'fun' FYI - the CHDC (Cdn. Horse Defense Coalition) posted my 'height stick demonstration' on their web-site and we came up with/included an informational write-up to go with it on this DD issue. If you are interested (or want to see my 3 babies ;) ) we can be found at this link:

Just an update for those who took the time to email MP Albrecht regarding this issue (or just interested!) - today I finally received the letter (snail mail) that he and his office put together for the (The Honourable) Min. of Ag., cc'd to Carole Swan, Pres. of the CFIA.
They included my summary letter with it and their letter is EXCELLENT. He made a couple of references to the additional INFORMED and concerned observers 'passionate about proper animal care' that communicated to him on this issue also.
He even extended offer of support by his office to assist the CFIA in long overdue updates to the Reg's.
(Nice touch ;) )
It was very well written and I am so pleased. I will keep you guys in the loop - your support really added to it - very grateful . :)

Thanks you guys (my part is small) but horses are still whizzing around on you-know-what's. We'll see what transpires...and just keep at it till it's done.

Is enforcing this a policing issue?
Maybe the municipal and provincial police need to be made aware of what to look for.

I just got a letter in the mail from Harold Albrecht, along with a copy of a letter he sent to Gerry Ritz re: your complaint Jazzy but instead of your name it was XXXXX. Cool, eh? :)

Guys - big favor here - could anyone who has witnessed (anytime) horses on a double deck trailer please email me? Could be very important for the horses - many thanks.

I have not... sometimes it is hard to tell. Especially when they have all the holes covered up.
I do carry a camera in the car because it seems like the best shots happen when the camera is left behind.
If I do see one I will be sure to snap a shot and take details.

You are much smarter/more organized than me Noodle - I'm still often caught without. Sounds like a good plan :)
