For those people who don't know, and maybe for someone in South Dakota that might have some informtion. At the end of August of last year a man imported 89 babies from South Dakota to sell as meat horses. Well he, or someone he knew, had the brilliant idea that he might get more for them if someone "leaked" that these babies were going for meat and he could sell them. Most of the 89 babies found homes, some went for meat, but I now have 4 of them. Many people bought these babies only to find out that they must have been field bred and were not trained to halter, or to lead and needed extensive work. Not a problem if they're on your own farm. But for some city folk with more heart and money than experience, it became an issue. Buying these babies and then paying board on a horse you were afraid of became an issue. So, someone like me takes them, so that they don't end up exactly where they started from. Now I'm working with them, but would be interested in knowing more history if I can. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I don't know much more than they came through the border sometime in August. There is a whole different mix, coloured horses, rat tailed appies, quarters, quarter/arab cross (I think), and none of them had been handled. Boys still have all their parts (I problem I intend to solve with mine in warmer weather) and no-one seems to have been wormed. I don't know how they came across the border without shots unless he guaranteed that they were going only for meat. Anyway, any help would be a blessing. Thanks.
